It’s not as easy as it sounds to buy Toys and Games for four year olds. There are lots of Toys and Games in shops on the high street and wonderful websites on the internet selling toys and games. The challenge is too much choice; here are a few suggestions that might help;
Children, around the age of four, love helping their parents, especially in the garden. A perfect gift therefore is a gardening set. Choose a gardening set with child sized tools or build up your own set by buying individual tools. There are lots of jobs children can do in the garden; raking leaves, turning soil over, planting, sweeping and weeding. If you are buying a set make sure it has a spade, trowel, rake, broom, watering can, gardening gloves and a wheelbarrow.
A four year olds capacity to learn is phenomenal; they want to learn about everything, they will have started to count but telling the time will still be confusing to them so a teaching clock, bright, full of characters they recognise would be a fantastic toy that they would have lots of fun with and learn from.
All children love adventure, even if they get bumps and scrapes during play, it gives them so much confidence and belief in them selves. To accommodate this sense of adventure which will also teach them balance and expand their imagination is a climbing frame. Good climbing frames are more than toys, they will last for years and children will play with them for many years to come. Choose a climbing frame that has a couple of platforms, one that can be a den so needs a roof, rope ladders and nets, bars and swing. Make sure that it passes all safety regulations.
One last suggestion would be a tent, den or tepee. Children love playing in some form of tent that they can pretend is their home. These types of toys are where children make up their own games. It doesn’t matter whether they are girls or boys these toys will stimulate their imagination to play make believe games that will be full of adventure.
Toys and games that we play with as children build memories, in later years when we have children of our own we say things like ‘ I remember having one of those it was fantastic’ and promptly tell you all about it.
