With so many more people enjoying the freedom of the open road, cycles are becoming more popular, and Mountain Bikes are no exception. Off roading, trail biking, town biking and dirt jumping are all popular sports. Choosing your bike is easy. Check out the facts about the different Bikes before you start. Here are a few to get you going. Frames Frames can be made from a variety of material including steel, aluminum, titanium and composite. Well designed Mountain Bikes should be lightweight, strong, and responsive. Braking systems Braking systems vary, but all mountain Bikes have good brakes. They are designed to go fast, so must be able to stop quickly. If you think your brakes aren’t working properly, or notice a change in the lever movement, check them out immediately. Strong design The components of a mountain bike are sturdy and developed to withstand the sudden impact of jumping and the rigours of off roading. Correct size It’s important you buy the correct size of bike. This is especially true for kids. Kids mountain bikes come with different size wheels, so you can check age ranges and wheel sizes. There are some excellent videos on the internet to help you find the correct size of bike and to help you correctly position the seat and handlebars. Types of mountain Bike These include Cross-country trail bikes, Hard Tail mountain bikes, Trail bikes, Cross-country race bikes, Dirtjump bikes and Downhill bikes. Trail bikes Trails bikes are for regular riding on trails. These bikes have good front suspension, a comfortable saddle and well positioned handlebars. Trails can be long, so they are designed to be comfortable throughout your ride. Trial bikes A trial bike is super strong and doesn’t need suspension. The response and position of the pedals and handle bars are the key points of these designs. Cyclists ride over obstacles and jump over tree trunks, wooden pallets and even cars. Seats are low or are taken off completely, so as not to obstruct the rider when the rider is lining up the bike and making jumps. Repair kits and spares No matter how well you look after your bike, you will probably have a breakdown at some time. Be prepared for this by taking spares and a repair kit with you when you go off road. To keep safe, let someone know where you are going and check in with them when you get back.
